What You Will Do:  At KMLabs you will be developing control and diagnostic support software for production and prototype laser and optical systems. You will be a member of a highly accomplished team bringing the most advanced ultrafast laser technologies to the market.

Required Skills:

  • 3+ years of software design/development on instruments or commercial products in C, C++ or Java.
  • Familiarity/experience with LabVIEW.
  • Experience working with COTS and custom hardware drivers to control and monitor a number of optical and electrical components within one integrated system.
  • Skilled at troubleshooting and resolving software bugs in a timely manner.
  • Team player with the ability to collaborate with other engineers to solve systems problems that involve hardware and software.
  • Comfortable working with weekly sprints in an agile development environment.
  • Familiar working with revision control for managing source code.
  • Strong communication and time management skills; Ability to work with minimum supervision with a sense of urgency and ownership.
  • Thrives in a fast paced work environment and is able to shift priorities quickly and easily.

 Nice-To-Have Skills:

  • Exposure to and/or interest in FPGA HDLs such as Verilog or VHDL.
  • Electrical or Hardware Engineer that has gravitated to a Software Engineer.
  • Experience with laser systems and vacuum systems.

 Education:

  • BS in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, or a related field.

Ultrafast Fiber Laser Engineer

What You Will Do:  As the Ultrafast Fiber Laser Engineer you will spend the majority of your time building and orchestrating the production of ultrafast laser systems, with up to 20% of time supporting installation and field service of our laser systems.  You will be an integral member of a highly accomplished team bringing the most advanced ultrafast laser technologies to the market.

Who You Are:  You are experienced in building and orchestrating the production of fs-class fiber laser systems.  You not only enjoy manufacturing but also working with customers.  You want to get in at the ground floor with a company that is developing a broad portfolio of industrial and scientific products.  You have a true passion for helping a company grow and being a key contributor to that growth.

Required Skills:

  • 3+ years hands-on experience building fs-class fiber laser systems in a production environment.
  • Experience with engineering documentation, bill of materials, work instructions, and assembly process documentation for new products.
  • Experience with design for manufacturing and design for cost.
  • Experience in applications engineering.
  • Customer relationship management and field installation/service experience.
  • Experience with ultrafast laser diagnostic equipment.
  • Experience with assembly, alignment, and troubleshooting of lasers and complicated optical setups.
  • Knowledge of fiber laser technology, laser and optical design and modeling, optical components and materials from UV to IR, and optical metrology and measurement equipment.
  • Familiarity with diffraction gratings, polarization optics, reflective optics, beam telescoping, and general laser principles.
  • Excellent understanding of the interplay of structural, optical, and thermal design features on system performance.
  • Ability to travel 20% of time to install and service fielded laser systems.
  • Outstanding communication, technical writing, and time management skills.

Nice-To-Have Skills:

  • Project and team leadership.
  • Ultrafast laser micromachining.
  • Product manufacture and design in an ISO-compliant quality management system.

Education:

  • Degree in optics, physics, or related engineering discipline; MS preferred.

Electronics Technician

 About Us:  KMLabs is the technology leader for high power, highest performance femtosecond laser systems, and the market definer for coherent EUV and x-ray sources.

What You Will Do:  You will spend the majority of your time working on electrical assembly and wiring, and electronics enclosure and rack assembly, for production and prototype laser system control assemblies.  Other duties include troubleshooting/repair of components and assemblies as necessary and general electronics shop maintenance tasks.  You will be a member of a highly accomplished team bringing the most advanced ultrafast laser technologies to the market.

Who You Are:  You are an Electronics Technician with an entrepreneurial spirit.  You want to get in at the ground floor with a company that is developing a broad portfolio of industrial and scientific products.  You have a true passion for helping a company grow and being a key contributor to that growth.

Required Skills:

  • Significant previous work history in the electronics prototyping/manufacturing field is required.
  • Understanding of electrical/electronics practices required to build and test electrical assemblies.
  • Ability to work with various small hand tools/power tools to perform electrical/mechanical assembly.
  • Excellent soldering skills – surface mount and through-hole.
  • Excellent cable harness fabrication skills.
  • Operates various types of standard test equipment such as DVMs and oscilloscopes.
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to read and modify wiring diagrams, schematics, test, and system checkout procedures.
  • Strong communication and time management skills: Ability to work with minimum supervision with a sense of urgency and ownership.
  • Thrives in a fast paced work environment and is interested in improving workflow and build efficiency.
  • Experience using MS-Word, MS-Excel.

Highly Desired Skills:

  • Assists with setting up, testing, adjusting, and operational checking of moderately complex to complex electronic systems.
  • Experience producing PCB layouts from a provided schematic from engineers.
  • Can redesign prototype cable harnessing to a commercial grade for increased efficiency, reliability, and ability to meet EMI/immunity requirements.

 Nice-To-Have Skills:

  • Experience with electrical/electronics material procurement and in identification of alternates for obsolete parts.
  • Experience with laser systems and vacuum systems.

 Education:

  • 2 year electronics degree or equivalent.
